Moegsien lives in a small community along the N2. He and his wife, Saaimah, are in a sense the
gatekeepers to the community, watching over the numerous children who live there. His philosophy is
expressed in the phrase
“If you don‘t want to die young, Stay in school.”
“One picture sparked ”The Unbearable Lightness of Seeing” It started as one portrait, of Moegsien... Only when I developed it, I realized I had something special, something in the instinctively protective stance he assumed as I took the shot. I had to return, to explore where that instinct came from. What was it he was protecting? Through that, I was introduced to a whole community. Armina, his daughter, immediately caught my attention. A new story was born.”
